What is Future-Proofing Your Health?
I wrote a blog post on 8 Ways to Future-Proof Your Skin for Wild Nutrition and while writing it, I reflected on the concept of future-proofing as part of my general approach to nutrition and to health.
While future-proofing may sound like it offers some degree of certainty about how we will age, it’s more about setting the foundations for resilience in what is an un-predictable future.
The reality is, that despite our best-made plans, we can’t know what life will bring tomorrow or in 5 or 10 years. But in thinking about our health today, and the actions and behaviours we’ll adopt to support it, we can have a view to how they will serve us in the future too.
Whether this is about our skin, our cognitive health, our musculo-skeletal integrity or our ability to adapt to the hormonal changes we experience month to month - and that will be an inevitable part of our ageing, what we do today, can impact us tomorrow.
This can be as simple as applying SPF to our skin each day, taking part in movement that is good for our cardiovascular health, or even prioritising a vegetables as part of our meals. Future-proofing is not a promise for how things will be, but is putting into place the foundations for a healthier future.
