My Own Skin Story

My own skin story is a big part of why I work the way I do.

From my late teens into my mid-twenties, I had acne. It arrived quite suddenly and, at the time, felt all-consuming. It affected not just my skin, but how I felt in myself - my confidence, my sense of ease, and how comfortable I felt in my skin (both literally and metaphorically).

I tried a lot of different approaches back then, many of them quite aggressive. Some helped temporarily, others came with side effects that impacted my health more broadly.

Looking back, I can see that how I thought I was supporting my skin wasn’t aligned with what it actually needed. I was disrupting my skin barrier, placing pressure on my system, and unknowingly fuelling inflammation - all while trying to ‘fix’ what I could see on the surface. The psychological stress of it all didn’t help either.

I didn’t yet understand the connections between skin, hormones, metabolism, the nervous and immune systems, and the microbiome.

That understanding came later - through years of research, training, and clinical practice, as well as my own experience.

It’s what led me to develop my In Your Skin method; considering the skin as part of a whole system, rather than something to treat in isolation.

Now, when I work with women - from adolescence through to perimenopause - the focus is on restoring function, building resilience, and supporting the skin in a way that feels sustainable and considered, while recognising that that the skin’s needs shift and evolve at different stages of life.

I often think about how different things might have felt if I’d had this perspective earlier, and it continues to shape how I support the women I work with today.

If this resonates and you’re ready to take a more considered approach to your skin, book an introductory call.
